Concrete Driveway Replacement Tyler TX - Tear-Out & New Driveways

When a Tyler driveway is broken into plates, lifted by a pine root at one corner and sunk at the garage lip, patching stops making sense. Driveway replacement means cutting the old slab out, fixing what failed underneath, and pouring a new driveway that drains and carries weight the way it should.

What a Replacement Includes

We saw-cut a clean edge, break out the old concrete and haul it off. HomeGuide's national range for driveway removal alone is $1,200 to $4,500. Then comes the part that decides how long the new slab lasts: digging out soft clay, roots and organic soil, bringing in base, and compacting it before the forms go up. HomeGuide's guideline is at least 4 inches of concrete for everyday cars and 5 to 6 inches where an RV, boat trailer or heavy truck parks, with thickened edges of 6 to 8 inches. Rebar or wire is quoted as its own line, so you can see the choice.

National Price Ranges

HomeGuide puts a new concrete driveway at $6 to $15 a square foot nationally, or $2,400 to $8,600 for a typical two-car driveway, and adds $1 to $3 a square foot for rebar and $3 to $8 for grading when a site needs it. Our quote breaks out removal, base, concrete, reinforcement, finish and any permit so nothing is buried in one number.

Tyler Rules That Touch a Driveway Job

Tyler's Unified Development Code, Sec. 10-211, says no driveway may be built, rebuilt, altered or repaired until Development Services issues a permit, and the City's Development FAQ points to the approach at the street as the piece that needs one. We confirm with Development Services which applies before work starts. The residential driveway permit is $50 on the City's fee schedule. Where the job touches the street, the City's standard detail and paving notes apply: a public walk 6 inches thick where it crosses the drive, 1-inch expansion joints on 40-foot centers, a center control joint on drives 20 feet or wider, and curing that the inspector checks. Approach work is covered in detail on our driveway approaches and extensions page. Before anyone digs, Texas law requires a call to Texas 811 at least 48 hours ahead, not counting weekends and holidays.

When Replacement Isn't Needed

A driveway that sank in one piece can often be raised instead; see concrete leveling and mudjacking. If only two or three panels are broken, we'll price replacing just those against a full tear-out so you can choose.

After the Pour

HomeGuide's guideline is 24 to 48 hours before walking on new concrete, at least 7 days before driving on it, and 28 to 30 days for a full cure. With care, it puts a concrete driveway's life at 30 to 40 years.
