Concrete Pool Decks Tyler TX - New Pool Decks & Pool Deck Resurfacing

A pool deck in Tyler takes more punishment than any other slab in the yard: full sun, splash-out, chlorine, bare feet and a lot of summer. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for Tyler Pounds Field count about 98 days a year at 90°F or hotter and about 14 at 100°F or more. We build new concrete pool decks, replace cracked and heaved ones, and resurface decks that are sound but worn.

Replace or Resurface?

If the deck has sunk away from the coping, cracked into pieces or tilts water back toward the pool, it needs to come out. HomeGuide puts national pool deck replacement at $30 to $55 a square foot, including disposal of the old material. If the slab is solid and only the surface is tired, resurfacing is the cheaper road: HomeGuide's national range is $3 to $12 a square foot, or $1,500 to $10,800 for a 500 to 900 square foot deck. By finish, it lists basic resurfacing at $3 to $6, decorative (stain, dye, texture or shape) at $6 to $12, and stamped at $7 to $20.

Cooler Surfaces and Better Grip

A light finish stays cooler than a dark one under the July sun, and texture keeps wet feet from sliding. Options we price on pool work:

  • Broom or light-texture finish on new concrete.
  • Exposed aggregate, which grips well and hides dirt. More on our exposed aggregate and decorative concrete page.
  • Stamped patterns like wood plank or flagstone; see stamped concrete.
  • Cool-deck coatings. HomeGuide lists a coat of Kool Deck at about $4 to $6 a square foot nationally and says it lowers surface temperature.

Drainage and the Pool Shell

Every deck should slope away from the water, toward deck drains or the lawn, so rain and splash don't carry dirt and lawn chemicals into the pool. The joint between the deck and the coping needs a flexible sealant, not hard grout, because the deck and the shell move separately. We check the existing deck drains before we quote; a clogged drain is a common reason the old deck settled.

Permits Inside Tyler

The City's Development FAQ says resurfacing a pool or replacing its tile or coping needs no permit, but changing the decking does. The City's fee schedule lists a residential swimming pool permit at $150 for new pools. Deck replacement goes on the permit schedule from the first visit.
