Concrete Resurfacing Tyler TX - Overlays for Worn & Stained Concrete
Concrete that's structurally sound can still look rough: worn down to the stone, pitted where a downspout drips, stained by years of oak leaves, rust and red clay. Resurfacing puts a new top layer on a Tyler driveway, walk, patio or garage floor for less than tearing it out.

When Resurfacing Is the Right Call
An overlay is a thin coat bonded to the old slab, so it can only be as good as what's under it. It works when the slab is solid and stays put: worn surface, light scaling, shallow pits, old stains, hairline cracks. It doesn't work on a slab that's still moving. HomeGuide notes an overlay won't fix concrete with major cracks or crumbling. If panels have sunk or rocked, see concrete leveling first. If it's broken up, replacement is the better spend.

Prep Decides How Long It Lasts
HomeGuide says inadequate surface preparation is the most common cause of cracking and delamination in a new overlay. Our prep is pressure washing, removing loose and flaking material, opening up and filling cracks, and priming with a bonding agent before the overlay goes on. Existing joints are kept and carried through the new surface; covering a joint just moves the crack up into the overlay.

Finishes
- Smooth or broom-finish topping to make a tired slab look new again.
- Spray-texture or knockdown finish, common on patios and walks for grip.
- Stamped overlay, which adds a stone or brick pattern on top of existing concrete. Inside Tyler, the City's paving notes don't allow stamped surfaces on any sidewalk section or driveway approach, so we keep stamped overlays on your side of the property line.
- Color, either tinted into the overlay or stained afterward; see stained and colored concrete.
Pool decks have their own options and pricing on our concrete pool decks page.

National Price Ranges
HomeGuide's national range for concrete resurfacing is $3 to $7 a square foot, and $6 to $20 for decorative or stamped overlays. Its size examples:
- 10' x 10': $300 to $700.
- 20' x 20': $1,200 to $2,000.
- 24' x 24' (a two-car driveway): $1,700 to $2,900.
- 4' x 50' sidewalk: $600 to $1,400.
HomeGuide says a resurfaced slab typically lasts 8 to 15 years before it needs repairs.
